Baseball hitting is one of the most difficult feats in all of sports. You’re trying to hit a round ball with a round bat.
But with the right bat, you can just concentrate on your batting fundamentals to become a better hitter.
Features of the DeMarini Voodoo Paradox
Here are some of the reasons why this DeMarini Voodoo BBCOR is so popular:
- X10™ Alloy Barrel. This revolutionary blend of alloy agents has been specifically made to offer optimal strength at the thinnest points. The best and most massive sweet spot has been achieved by tweaking the thickness of the barrel walls.
- Paradox™ Composite Handle. With a more powerful and stiffer handle than ever before, the new DeMarini Voodoo Paradox is a hotter and more responsive bat.
- ION-V™ End Cap. This two-piece end cap is specifically designed for the Voodoo. It minimizes the vibration and transfers the energy to the sweet spot. This makes for greater power.
- RCK™ Knob. The knob is anatomically designed so that it feels snug in your hand. It feels more comfortable, and you have greater control.
- Taper Ring Technology™. This is the internal ring inserted close to the taper so that it meets BBCOR standards. It does this without putting on additional weight to the end of the barrel and without interfering with the sweet spot.
Pros and Cons
So what’s good about the 2014 DeMarini Voodoo Paradox?
-
It’s much more balanced and with much less end weight. Balance and weight are crucial factors in choosing a bat, and with the DeMarini Voodoo BBCOR it feels just right.
It really feels like you can really control its swing, as the end weight isn’t very loaded at all.
-
There’s a bigger sweet spot for more room for error.
The 2014 DeMarini Voodoo Paradox offers a bigger sweet spot than ever. This gives you a large margin of error because you don’t have to hit the ball with the precisely correct spot on the bat.
It really is much more forgiving, and this means your hitting should improve once you replace your old bat with this.
-
It conforms to BBCOR standards while still minimizing weight. The BBCORR standards were put in place in order to minimize the “trampoline effect” offered by many bats on the market.
But to dampen this effect, that usually meant making it thicker and thus heavier. But that’s not the case with the 2014 DeMarini Voodoo.
-
It’s comfortable. One of the most important things about hitting is confidence, and that’s what you feel with the DeMarini Voodoo Paradox.
It feels right in your hands, as the grip seems customized just for you. And then when you swing the bat the level of control shows you why you actually should feel confident.
-
The sound is crisp. One of the complaints against most composite bats is that the sound isn’t as crisp as the sound of aluminum bats.
Composite bats sound more like wooden bats. It seems muted and muffled. The DeMarini Voodoo BBCOR is an exception to this generalization, because the sound it offers is still very crisp.
It informs you right away if you hit the ball right.
-
Now the internal ring is at the bottom end of that sweet spot and it makes a different spot. It avoids the middle of the sweet spot to preserve the crisp sound.
But even if you hit the ball with the spot of the bat where the taper ring is, the performance and quality of the hit is still the same.
It’s still part of the sweet spot. The only difference is the sound.
-
The durability is dependable. DeMarini has long been known for making durable bats, and the 2014 DeMarini Voodoo Paradox is no exception to this rule.
It comes with a one-year warranty, but the DeMarini bats just last for a long, long time.
-
The price is right. You’d think that with all these fine features the price would be astronomical, but you’d be wrong.
What About The Sound?
Can You Tell Me About an Actual Review?
But is it all good? Not quite. You should check your league rules regarding wide barrel bats first before you buy a 2014 DeMarini Voodoo.
In one Amazon review, one dad bought his son a DeMarini Voodoo bat and in the kid’s first game he got an inside the park home run.
But then it would be his last with that 2014 DeMarini Voodoo because their league had rules regarding wide barrel bats.
Ironically but perhaps not so surprisingly, that particular review still gave the DeMarini Voodoo Paradox a 5-star rating. I guess they really loved the DeMarini Voodoo bat!
Consumer Reports and Reviews
The sole negative review was because of one guy who thought that the DeMarini Voodoo BBCOR ring was a defect even though he was told by DeMarini customer support that it was a requirement.
Virtually all the Amazon reviews revolve around two main themes.
Either it’s a dad who raves about how his son loves the bat (or a coach talking about his players) and how the kids performed well with the bat, or it’s the players themselves saying words that are synonymous with awesome.
Examples here include amazing and unbelievable.
Conclusion on This 2014 DeMarini Voodoo Paradox
For college and high school players, there’s no debate that this one bat that deserves serious consideration. In fact, it’s now the go-to bat of many school athletes.
There’s a reason why the DeMarini Voodoo BBCOR is the bat of choice for a large number of college baseball players.
