Features of the 2016 Easton Mako Drop 10
This bat comes with the USSSA 1.15 BPF Thumbprint Stamp, and that’s important since every youth bat is required to perform at (or below) BPF of 1.15.
BPF stands for bat performance factor, and that means it conforms to the bounciness standards required by most youth baseball leagues.

Of course, just about every youth bat also comes with this mark, so that’s not exactly special. It’s also a drop 10 bat, which means that the 27-inch version weighs 17 ounces, and when it’s 32 inches it weighs 22 ounces.
That’s also common.
Even its full 12-month warranty is standard in the industry.
Let’s Just Get To The Features of This Sweet Bat
The 2016 Easton Mako Big Barrel is really great because of the following features:
-
It offers a big barrel at 2 3/4 inches in diameter. That increases the chances of making contact with the ball, and in youth league that translates to more chances of reaching first base.
-
It uses the TCT Thermo Composite Technology. This is a composite bat, which is quite different from an aluminum bat.
It’s expensive because of its perfect balance between softness and strength, and between performance and durability.
-
So what do you get with this composite material? One is a massive sweet spot. This is the area of the bat that offers the least vibrations when you make contact with the ball.
It’s the optimum contact point. And since it’s huge, you don’t have to be absolutely dead center when you hit the ball every time to get the baseball to pop out of the bat.
-
It’s a 2-piece design, and that means the vibrations that normal results from a mishit when you don’t get contact with the sweet spot doesn’t reach the handle—which then travels to the hands of the player.
This is always a problem with a 1-piece design, which is why those bats tend to have lots of anti-vibration technology to compensate.
Here, the 2-piece design is the anti-vibration technology.
Watch video explaining this here.
-
This 2-piece build is made possible with their ConneXion technology, which Easton actually patented. Essentially, this really boosts the “trampoline” effect of the bat, so it’s somewhat like hitting a tennis ball with a springy racket.
And at the same time, you’ll also like the feel of its balanced weight distribution.
-
The composite handle measures 29/32 of an inch, which is nice and thin enough to be quite comfortable. But what really sets it apart is the presence of the 1.2mm Hyperskin Bat Grip.
This high tech grip offers a textured surface that really lets you take hold of the handle securely, while your hands also feel comfortable.
That comfort isn’t compromised when you mishit the ball, because it also absorbs the shock and reduces the vibration when you don’t get contact with the sweet spot.
We’ve already noted that the 2-piece construction helps with reducing the vibration. Add the 1.2mm Hyperskin Bat Grip, and the sting of a mishit is pretty much eliminated.

Pros and Cons of This 2016 Easton Mako -10
So let’s take a good long look at what really makes this Easton Mako so special. First of all, it’s an Easton Mako.
Taking note of all the advanced features, such as the excellent composite material, the 2-piece design, the size and weight, and the grip, here are some of the advantages you receive if you use this:
- You get a bat that really that feels comfortable in your hands when you take a swing.
- You get incredible bat speed when you take a swing, which increases the chances of making contact and also give you more power when you do get a hold of the ball.
- There’s a lot more flex with this bat, which is great for contact hitters.
- The sweet spot is massive. Add the 2-piece design and the special bat grip, and vibrations aren’t the problems that they used to.
So what’s so bad about the bat? Just one thing—the price. We’re not the only people to note this, as quite a few 2016 Easton Mako Big Barrel reviews have mentioned it too.
At $350, it is a tad exorbitant, and not many people can afford it even if they think it’s worth the expense.
Verdict on This 2016 Easton Mako -10
Is it worth the expense? That’s really hard to say, and a lot depends on how your child sees the game if you’re buying it for them.

If they’re just casual players, and you’re not really sure they’ll want to continue playing, then it’s hard to justify this price point.
At the same time, it can be argued that a bat like this can make a child more likely to remain interested. It looks great.
It offers better performance, and that always make a player happy. They can get more hits, more bases, and more importantly more wins.
It also helps players remain interested because it doesn’t hurt as much to play. Hitting the ball wrong often happens, and the resulting sting can be rather discouraging.
With its massive sweet spot and anti-vibration features, you don’t get that unpleasant sensation all that much.
So let’s end with this: if you’re a contact hitter, and you can afford this, then it’s a very good choice.
