During the study, DeBroff had 46 volunteers reading the letters in the Pelli-Robinson contrast sensitivity chart under sunlight.

This study was followed up by Benjamin R. Powers at University of New Hampshire. The results of this study supported that of DeBroff and found that black grease does indeed reduce the effects of the sun’s glare.

<p>Soon afterwards, other studies were done proving the benefits of black grease. While many were done with sunlight, others were held indoors under various lighting conditions.

More recently, the show Mythbusters demonstrated that black grease improves the eyes’ ability to distinguish between dark and light.

What the results showed is that when black grease was applied, the subjects were able to read a line lower than without it.

<p>As you can imagine, increased contrast visibility is important in baseball. If you’re a hitter, it’s important you see the ball coming in amidst the glare and all the other colors and distractions in the arena, and the same thing if you’re a pitcher.

As was noted earlier, we have tried a number of these black grease products and while they should all work in theory, efficiency varies, with the Warrior the most effective thus far.
